In 2005 he graduated in Art Direction from the Istituto Europeo di Design. After a short internship at Leo Burnett, he realized that his path lay in graphic design. He began working at Zetalab, where for several years he developed the visual identity of the Milano Film Festival.
In 2009 in Milan, together with Luisa Milani, he founded La Tigre. The studio quickly established itself both nationally and internationally, working on projects for The New York Times, The Guardian, Wired, Süddeutsche Zeitung, IBM, Zucchi, Bassetti, Eni, Il Sole 24 Ore, Mondadori, and many others.
In 2012 the studio was named Young Guns by the Art Directors Club of New York. In 2014 he oversaw the redesign of the logo for The Independent. In 2015 he received an award from the Type Directors Club, and in 2016 one of his projects was selected as a finalist by the Society of Publication Designers. In 2015, Walter Molteni began teaching at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Turin.
