As a parent, I believe this was a highly formative experience in every respect artistic, interpersonal, and professional. However, I found the “extra” workload assigned to the young participants excessive. Tasks such as setting up and dismantling the entire structure as seen in the photos are jobs that I feel should be handled by designated staff. My son appreciated the bonds formed with his peers, the activities offered, and his relationship with the tutors. He did, however, struggle with the lack of adequate facilities; restrictions on the use of showers and laundry services during the hottest days were a significant issue.

The organization was precise and punctual, and the staff was always available for any communication or updates. My son is a child of the digital age, an era of mobile phones and gaming consoles, a time when young people often gather in public squares only to stare at their smartphone screens, completely absorbed in nothingness, seemingly in a trance and oblivious to the world around them.
Apathy, boredom it feels as though they live inside a bubble made of algorithms and dopamine, where the only window onto an often-distorted world is the shiny, small screen they clutch in their hands.
Francesca and I discovered Design in Town almost by chance or, as I’d say now, by a stroke of luck. Of course, the decision to send our son so far from home for the first time wasn’t easy… a mother’s heart worries: how will he manage on his own for two weeks? But that’s exactly the point! We need to give our children the chance to challenge themselves, to get to know themselves, and above all to burst that bubble. Let them go. Pack two pairs of shorts and a sweatshirt, strictly black, along with plenty of confidence and a touch of good humor, but remember to leave plenty of empty space. He will need it to bring home all the beauty of this experience: the laughter, the hard work, the exhaustion, the projects, the happiness, the dedication, the hugs, the wonderful new friendships, and a healthy, newfound self-esteem.
Finally, to see how it went, you need only look closely at him upon his return, as he steps off the bus and with glistening eyes bids farewell to the fellow participants and tutors with whom he shared this fantastic adventure.

It was wonderful to see their attentive faces while the tutors explained things, and to see them with their heads bent over their work. Talking to the kids, they gave the overall experience an 8 out of 10, highest marks for the new friendships, lowest for the food (which wasn’t always to their liking, though satisfying 80 spoiled kids is no easy task). I also asked specifically what Pasquale is like-because, to me, you’re tough; pulling off an experience like this isn’t something just anyone could do! The whole town ought to thank you… Well, my kids did mention that sometimes you’d snap at people, even the tutors, but they don’t realize the stress and responsibility you’re under. Thank you so much for all the passion you put into this.

I decided to sign up for Design in Town because I was interested in photography, but I ended up becoming passionate about the other disciplines as well. This experience was incredibly valuable for my personal growth; it helped me mature and taught me a great deal, but above all, it allowed me to forge meaningful connections. The pace can be challenging to keep up with at first, but it is certainly manageable. Although the work is intense and happens around the clock, all the fatigue fades away when you see your projects on display at the exhibition and witness people taking an interest in what you’ve created.
For me, the tutors were a crucial part of the journey; they stood by our side through every success and setback, every happy moment and sad one.
I highly recommend this experience to anyone who has never tried their hand at these disciplines before but is eager to step out of their comfort zone and learn something new.

It was an intense two weeks filled with hard work, new friendships, and very little sleep.
Coming from a science-focused high school, I arrived with very little prior knowledge of the subjects awaiting me and was somewhat worried about keeping up with others who were more experienced than I was. However, right from the start, thanks to teamwork and the explanations and support provided by the teachers, I was able to produce work I am truly proud of. The instructors were excellent; from the very first introductory sessions, they sparked my imagination and passion for the subject. The tutors were consistently helpful and kind.
Even the demanding schedule, something else I had been concerned about, given that I am used to getting plenty of sleep didn’t bother me too much; the drive to work on the projects and meet new people made it all worthwhile.

The two weeks I spent here in Troia certainly weren’t easy: the schedules are often strict, as are the rules. Working on projects until midnight after waking up at 6 a.m. and doing morning exercises is no easy feat. Despite this, however, you make so many friends; I arrived here alone, knowing no one, yet I managed to find people I could confide in and with whom I hope to stay in touch, even though we come from opposite ends of Italy.
The projects are often challenging, but the professors and tutors are excellent at helping and reassuring you when you feel you can’t pull off what you had planned.
DIT is certainly a demanding experience and not for everyone, but it leaves you with so many wonderful memories.

It was quite an experience at times, but I would do it all over again and would encourage anyone to give it a try. I arrived not knowing a soul, yet I managed to make plenty of new connections that I hope to maintain. I came here for photography, and I have to admit I learned a lot of new things that I hope to put to use outside of the program. As for the other courses, I really enjoyed videomaking, though I also discovered that I am hopeless at working with resin.
That said, I really got along well with the tutors, who are very welcoming (the photographer gets +100 points, but Antonella is great too). To wrap things up: Pasquale seems much meaner on Google Meet calls than he actually is in real life thank goodness for that.

The experience was very positive. The lessons were interesting, and the instructors closely supervised the projects, enabling us to produce highly satisfying final results. That said, I do not think this experience is for everyone: the schedule is quite demanding, and expectations regarding the projects are high. Design in Town is a tough, challenging summer camp aimed specifically at university guidance. Overall, I found it to be a constructive experience that steered me toward a more focused field of study. I view DIT as a positive experience, especially regarding the projects. I found everything to be very well-organized, with no significant waste of time. Having participated last year as well, I was able to compare the two experiences, and I can say that this year’s felt more organized. The only point I feel compelled to mention concerns the fashion workshop; I believe a lesson on sewing basics would have been useful, at least for me personally.
I really enjoyed the projects, and working in groups made it easy to socialize with all my fellow participants.
The presence of the tutors was very helpful; they were very approachable and assisted us whenever needed.

A fantastic experience.
At first, I didn’t know what to expect.
But I soon settled in; the other participants—who became friends—were fantastic people, and the fact that we were constantly in different groups allowed me to get to know more people.
The projects were great, and the lessons were interesting (though the stools and the heat were a bit of a downside); working on the projects really helped me figure out what I might enjoy doing.
I would have liked to have a few more free evenings, but overall, it was a wonderful and educational experience.

From an interpersonal standpoint, it was a pleasant experience. I met many people I really clicked with, and friendships blossomed, bonds I will certainly cherish and carry with me for a long time. On the other hand, however, I feel compelled to point out that the behavior of some tutors wasn’t always appropriate or respectful toward us students. To get the most out of an experience like this, you need people who genuinely want to be around young people, and that didn’t always seem to be the case here.
This place is supposed to foster art and creativity, but the unnecessary stress actually achieved the exact opposite result.
Some people were even reduced to tears by the stress, which ruined the beauty of the creative process for each project.
You certainly learn how to live together during this experience, given that, at least for the girls, there were 22 of us sharing a single room. The water pressure in the showers was extremely low, and five shower stalls simply aren’t enough for 44 girls.
The teachers were very kind, and I am very happy with them.

During these two weeks at the summer camp in Troia, I learned a lot. All the courses were very interesting and fun, but also quite challenging. In fact, we often had to stay up until the early hours of the morning several days a week to complete our work. During these workshops, you have to work hard, this is definitely not a place where you can expect to sit back and relax.

All the projects were stressful, but I think the fashion project was the most demanding because we had to create an entire garment in just three days. However, it was always incredibly rewarding to see everyone’s finished work. I also had the opportunity to model in the fashion show, and I had an amazing time.

San Domenico (the former convent where we stayed during the program) is not a five-star hotel, but it is still a nice place. The girls’ dormitory was a bit cramped since there were about twenty of us sharing ten bunk beds, and it could get quite messy (mostly because of all our suitcases and belongings). There were only a few small bathrooms, and on the first floor we had four showers that worked reasonably well, although the water pressure was inconsistent and the temperature constantly switched between freezing cold and boiling hot. They were always kept clean, though. Lunch and dinner were delicious, prepared with great care by the wonderful women in the kitchen, who were also very accommodating of vegetarian diets.

The people I met were all incredibly kind. The tutors were always available to help and were also very friendly, while the students were welcoming and fun to be around.

There were a few disagreements with the director, Pasquale, regarding some of the rules and the way certain situations were handled. We had never been informed that girls’ shorts had to meet a specific length requirement. Many of us had brought very short shorts that were mostly hidden under oversized T-shirts, but during the second week we were told they were inappropriate because they bothered the elderly people in town. That felt a little excessive.

There were also complaints that only the boys were being asked to help set up the exhibitions. One day, the girls were finally asked to help as well, but it turned into a prank that wasn’t particularly funny, Pasquale had us push and pull his perfectly functional car after telling us it had broken down.

On another day, a window fell on one of my friends. Thankfully, she only ended up with a small bruise on her leg, but the incident still shocked us because it seemed that Pasquale wasn’t particularly concerned about what had happened.

I would like to especially mention Antonella, who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, safe, and well looked after throughout the program.

I would also like to mention the fantastic photographer Gloria, who is a true professional. She dedicated so much of her time to making sure parents and families could follow the program in real time through her beautiful photographs. On top of that, she was always willing to talk to us and help with anything we needed.

Finally, I’d like to thank the other tutors, Elena, Alice, Lavinia, and Giulia, who were all amazing. They made sure we worked hard, but also that we always had someone to turn to whenever we needed support or simply wanted to talk.

Overall, there were definitely some difficult moments, but there were also many moments filled with joy during these two weeks.

Taking part in this experience was a significant decision for me, especially with university in mind.
Over the course of two weeks, I had the opportunity to participate in four workshops: architecture, fashion, graphic design, and photography. These were fascinating and distinct disciplines that allowed me to develop new techniques and skills, such as project organization, meeting deadlines, creativity, teamwork, and interacting with industry professionals that will undoubtedly prove useful in the future.
Beyond offering a chance to delve into subjects I don’t get to study at my classical high school, it was also a wonderful opportunity to forge new and meaningful friendships.
Admittedly, keeping up with the demanding pace and the complexity of the assigned projects wasn’t always easy; however, the desire to create something I could be proud of outweighed the fatigue that sometimes made me doubt I could pull it off.
Furthermore, in addition to the wonderful new friends I met, I must thank all the tutors who guided us students through the projects. They never stopped believing in us and our potential, supporting and putting up with us even when it was far from easy to do so.
In conclusion, I recommend this experience to anyone willing to approach these disciplines seriously, as well as to those who, like me, want to gain a better understanding of which path to choose for university.

It was a unique experience: two weeks that were exhausting yet full of intense emotions. I decided to go to clear my head, but I’m actually more undecided than before; I loved everything, too much. Pasquale is strict when it’s necessary, but if you start off on the right foot and show plenty of drive, he might just take a liking to you (not that there will be favoritism, quite the opposite, perhaps). In any case, I recommend enjoying it, because it will fly by before you know it. And beyond the design work, make sure to make friends; you won’t regret it.

The place is really nice! I had a great time because I met so many truly special people. The classes are very tough and long, sometimes we don’t finish until 2 AM, but despite that (and the heat in the classroom), the hours fly by because the activities are great. Make sure to buy a fan and an extension cord from one of the Chinese shops! Pasquale is strict, that’s his role, but if you take him the right way, he can be really likable… when he wants to be. The tutors are fantastic, each one better than the last, especially Elena, who is sadly leaving. The others are great too, but Elena really touched my heart; she’s an angel, always ready to help whether it’s with the work or when you’re feeling down. She notices everything: if you aren’t eating, if you’re crying silently, or if you’re smiling (which makes her happy). She radiates wonderful energy, and she’s definitely the person who will leave the biggest mark on me.

I spent two weeks in Troia, and I can certainly say it wasn’t a walk in the park, especially regarding the exhaustion that set in during those long, work-filled days.
The workshops were very interesting and offered stimulating activities, but you have to stay on the ball; completing quality work in under three days is far from easy. It is particularly challenging if you lack experience in the field, as there are only two professors for a large number of students, meaning you often won’t get much individual guidance and personally, I didn’t learn as much as I had hoped.
As for the accommodation, it certainly isn’t a five-star hotel; you’ll be staying in large dormitories, and managing the shared spaces can be difficult.
The thing I’m happiest about after this experience is the friendships I made. While sharing a room with 18 people isn’t easy, it definitely encourages everyone to spend more time together, and the shared areas provide a place to hang out during the few spare moments you have.
Overall, the rules are very strict, but if you follow them all, you can avoid constant lectures; everyone stays more relaxed, and you manage to enjoy a bit more freedom.

Overall, my experience at DIT was positive, and I gained skills and knowledge I hadn’t expected to acquire so readily. However, the people I ended up working with weren’t ideal; a lack of communication, especially during the final project, ended up spoiling the work. That said, the friendships I made and the local people were fantastic, unexpectedly open and welcoming. The only area where the campus needs improvement is in the oversight of team dynamics and communication; there are times when intervention is needed, and I felt that was lacking. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but otherwise, I think a single experience is enough, as the knowledge gained remains the same. I would only recommend this campus to those who are truly willing to work hard; otherwise, the work won’t turn out well or won’t get done at all.

The style director can sometimes come across as a bit more haughty than usual if something is done poorly or not done at all; after all, you attend this kind of activity specifically to work and learn what appeals to people, certainly not to slack off or goof around. DIT is a very demanding experience. Don’t expect to come here and do nothing, as that could prove burdensome for both you and the people in your group. However, if you are ready to spend two or three weeks with 60 strangers, sharing four toilets and three barely functional showers, dealing with people who won’t let you rest, and keeping up with a heavy workload, then I highly recommend it. You will learn a great deal and be supported by competent professionals and teammates who will always keep your spirits up.

I arrived not knowing a soul, yet I managed to make plenty of new acquaintances that I hope to keep in touch with. I came here for photography, and I have to admit I learned a lot of new things that I hope to put to use back home. As for the other courses, I really enjoyed videomaking, though I also discovered that I’m hopeless at working with resin.
It was a great experience; I met friendly people who were eager to socialize. I even learned about architecture from them, even though it wasn’t part of my scheduled program.

My daughter took part in Design in Town for two weeks and came back thrilled. She described it as a wonderful, intense, and truly extraordinary experience. It wasn’t a holiday, but a genuine immersive journey into the world of design, one involving hard work, immense learning, and significant personal growth. The professionals guiding the participants really connected with them, stimulating their creativity and critical thinking. Group work was central to the experience, helping to foster a spirit of collaboration.
From her stories, I could sense how much this experience enriched her, not just educationally, but personally: she returned with new friendships, new ideas, and a huge desire to go back. She has already decided she wants to participate again!
A word of caution, though: I don’t think Design in Town is for everyone. It demands a great deal of commitment, energy, and a willingness to step out of one’s comfort zone and push past certain limits.
But for those up to the challenge, I believe it is a truly extraordinary opportunity.

Despite some initial uncertainty about the true purpose of the camp and the fatigue caused by the hectic pace in the days that followed, we found ourselves reflecting on how, as time went on, the camp’s significance went far beyond the projects and skills we were learning. It taught us how to bring out the best in ourselves when interacting with strangers, how to push past our own personality limitations, and how to engage in so much valuable personal growth.
For my daughter, it was truly a lesson in life; she came away with a wealth of positive experiences and the satisfaction of having overcome various challenges.
We want to emphasize that the camp is truly worth the trip, and the staff was exceptional.

For me, DIT meant repeatedly asking myself, “What have I gotten myself into?” only to leave San Domenico saying goodbye to Pasquale with a “See you next year.” If you’re thinking of going to Design in Town, go after checking the schedule and asking around; go prepared to fill and sand architectural models until 3:30 AM, ready to sleep in 20-person dorms and share the only three working (and freezing) showers with 38 other girls; ready to argue with your teammates and redo the project from scratch up to six times, knowing full well that there will be people who couldn’t care less about the group effort and that meltdowns are inevitable. With this mindset and awareness, if you’re still convinced enough to hop on the “Marinobus” and face that 10-hour journey, get ready to meet amazing people who, if they choose to stick by your side there in the 37-degree Puglian heat, after you haven’t showered in three days or slept more than five hours a night for two weeks will be there for you forever. Get ready to learn a lot, both emotionally and technically; to meet professionals ready to help and encourage you, and locals willing to welcome you into their homes to share stories and, why not?, a quick coffee. As for the food, don’t worry: between the restaurants and the meals served at the convent, you’ll gain four kilos in two weeks and won’t regret a thing. The menu is tailored to everyone’s needs, and great care is taken; as a vegetarian, I had absolutely no issues and always went back for seconds. If you’re thinking of going to DIT for your work experience placement, take my word for it: there are other ways to do it. But if you’re just planning to have a laugh or if you start out thinking you can slack off, go lie down, or take a smoke break whenever you feel like it, then do everyone else (and Pasquale, whose patience isn’t exactly endless) a favor and stay home. Otherwise, I have a feeling we’ll be seeing each other again next year.

Initially, she was quite skeptical and apprehensive about the various details, such as the work schedule (not going to bed until the job is done), the university tutors, the industry professionals, the “pizza on the fly,” and so on. However, she ultimately experienced it exactly as it should be experienced: as a UNIQUE, authentic, and deeply engaging opportunity where everyone feels like a key player whose contribution is essential to the projects’ success. The first thing my daughter said when she returned was, “Mom, I’ve never learned as much as I did in these past two weeks!” The program allows participants to discover their own aptitudes within an extraordinary setting; working alongside professionals and executing concrete projects under tight deadlines enabled my daughter to experience teamwork and uncover new inner strengths. It was an extraordinary experience, both educationally and personally, demanding at times, yet deeply rewarding. The location and the involvement of local residents collaborating with the young participants make this program truly unique. But it goes far beyond that: fundamental values ​​were instilled, such as the importance of individual action for the common good, the need to care for our artistic heritage, and the importance of playing an active role, rather than remaining indifferent to the world around us. A powerful message came through about nurturing one’s talents to become a well-rounded, fulfilled person who acts to make the world a better place. Wonderful friendships were formed, too. I highly recommend this experience! Thank you, DIT!

It was a pleasure to learn about the DIT program for our kids and to see it making the rounds in our schools. DIT isn’t just about design, it’s something more.
Here is how our kids described their experience after returning from the first 2025 group session: “We started out skeptical—what with the crack-of-dawn wake-up calls and hard work all day long—but now we say: we’ll do whatever it takes at school to come back to Troia in the coming years. For us young people, DIT is a positive, engaging experience; it helps you grow alongside others, challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, and helps you let go of insecurities and fears. It teaches you with simplicity and kindness, to value yourself more and to respect others. A lot of these things were new to us. You know, Mom, every school kid should have a DIT experience; it teaches them to be creative, to dream bigger, and to respect other people. Design in Town was a truly great experience; even though I didn’t know anyone beforehand, I made many new friends, as collaboration is at the heart of the camp.
The hours are demanding, yet the working atmosphere remains pleasant; the tutors are friendly and very approachable, there’s a time for hard work and a time for having fun, and plenty of it.
I also really enjoyed working with the locals, who were always cooperative and helpful.
All in all, at DiT you work hard and head to your room tired every night, but always with a smile; when you finally go home, despite the exhaustion, you feel a touch of nostalgia.

It is hard to explain what happens on this campus; the feeling of having completed a journey lasting “only” two weeks leaves its mark on every participant, some are moved to tears, others feel uplifted, and some fall into despair. It is an exhausting experience, yet likely one of the few capable of highlighting the value of simple moments, like a chat under the stars or a run along the main road. Here, I learned that every moment counts and that human creativity is capable of achieving the most magnificent results. It is a happy haven (almost always) where one views the very person they initially didn’t want to speak to as an equal, and where the only true measure is the willingness to step out of one’s comfort zone and the drive to take action.

Overall, it was a positive experience; I saw that my daughter was happy with the group of young people, the projects, and the tutors, who were always available. However, there are some practical aspects of the accommodation that need improvement: cleanliness in the areas was poor (Arianna reported insects and bedbugs) a problem easily solved with the right products. There was no hot water for the showers.
Please include more fruit and vegetables in the meals, Puglia offers them in abundance. Thank you.

I know this is my second review, but firstly I have nothing else to do, and secondly well, I just felt like it. Anyway, as you walk toward the bus to head home and set off, gazing at the yellow and green fields winding across the hills, you feel a sort of heaviness leaving that little village; even though you only spent a few weeks there, you leave behind memories and friendships you’ll likely never revisit, and it makes you a bit sad. Thinking back to all the times you said you wanted to leave, you now realize what a wonderful memory you have how all your problems seemed to vanish in that village amidst the hills, where you knew nothing and no one, leaving you feeling free and unburdened, even amidst the exhaustion and occasional anger. I think I’ll miss the barbecues, the sleepless nights, the scenery, the five-a-side soccer and foosball matches, the inside jokes only your friends would get, the exhibitions, the friends, and so much more things everyone experiences in their own unique way. So, I say: take the leap and give it a try, because the truth is, even if you might regret going at times during those weeks, in the end, you’ll realize you made the right choice.

Design in Town was a truly unique experience, unlike any other. The working atmosphere was intense and consistent; projects spanning various disciplines allowed me to broaden my perspective, not just regarding my current field of study, but also regarding other potential academic paths. A major highlight was the opportunity to engage with skilled professional instructors who were genuinely open to hearing our views on execution and design techniques.
The pace was grueling, this is no holiday; anyone signing up must realize they are there to work harder than they might imagine. Group work is tough; you have to be ready to compensate for one another’s shortcomings. At the end of the three days, regardless of satisfaction levels, projects must be presented and explained. That is where the magic happens: seeing all the projects side-by-side makes you realize just how many diverse ideas can emerge from a single, shared brief.
The bonds formed over these two weeks were deep and unexpected, forged almost by chance. I will cherish them for the rest of my life.
While the workload is certainly intense, the pace could sometimes be dialed back; for certain disciplines, pulling an all-nighter on the second day wasn’t strictly necessary. We could have stopped after dinner, allowing us to sleep or socialize, giving us a chance to rest and step away from the work. Consequently, I noticed that by the third day, the accumulated fatigue made it difficult to think clearly and therefore to produce work with the clarity and precision I am sure would otherwise have been achieved.
The atmosphere became heavier during the second week, largely due to general exhaustion. That said, I believe this project is fantastic, both for the educational training it provides and for its approach to the local area, thanks to the constant interaction with the town of Troia and its residents. It could be improved in terms of organization and the daily schedule, allowing us participants some free time to switch off for a moment and return to work feeling more rested.
All in all, DIT was a deeply rewarding experience for me; I made the most of it. I hope the points mentioned above are taken into account for future years, without compromising the quality of the workshops, which remains high.
To anyone signing up: keep in mind that the workload is intense, really intense.

Design in Town was an experience that deeply affected me. I learned a great deal, both professionally and socially.
I learned how to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and collaborate with a diverse group of people. The people I met here will always hold a special place in my heart, and the projects were fascinating. The tutors, especially Fede and Antonella, were always incredibly kind and helpful.
I would only recommend this summer camp if you are willing to:
– wake up very early and go to bed very late
– share a room with 20 girls, at least a quarter of whom don’t care about washing themselves
– share just three bathrooms with 40 girls
– eat pizza and hamburgers four times a week and very few vegetables
– be belittled and criticized in every way, especially regarding your projects by Pasquale
– collaborate with instructors who aren’t used to working with teenagers and often don’t believe in your abilities
The only downsides were the complete lack of necessary project materials (we had to share three cameras among 50 people and go to a landfill to scavenge for design materials) and the fact that the instructors didn’t help us improve or explain *how* to do things; they only cared about getting everything finished in time for the exhibition. Aside from those issues, I think it was a very educational and fun experience. I will undoubtedly miss this adventure, but I wouldn’t go back.

I won’t lie to you, it involves a lot of hard work, but the bonds formed here make the experience truly worthwhile. Time flies amidst the jokes and laughter, and by the end of the program, you’ll find yourself tired but enriched by a wealth of wonderful experiences. The activities are fascinating and highly useful for orientation. The tutors will become your best friends and guide you throughout the weeks. Personally, my favorite moments are the lunch breaks, where we all eat together, sharing plenty of laughs and jokes.

I spent three fantastic weeks in Troia, and putting into words what I’ve experienced here will surely not do justice to the beauty I’ve found since I arrived. What I treasure the most from this experience are the friendships I’ve formed with people from all over Italy and beyond, and I hope to stay in touch with them even after DIT (Design in Town) is over. Diving into an experience like this requires a willingness to engage with people you don’t know and to take on tasks that often seem beyond your reach, but I can assure you it’s worth it.
I attended courses in videomaking, design, architecture, fashion, graphic design, and communication, and photography. I truly enjoyed all the courses, but some of them particularly captivated me thanks to the professors who conveyed their love for the subject in the few days of class (like our videomaking professor, Leopoldo Caggiano, and the photography professor, Mariano Dallago).
It’s impossible not to connect with the other students, especially since all the courses require working in groups. Personally, I am quite outgoing, but I also saw more reserved boys and girls stepping out of their comfort zones and meeting new people.
From a practical work perspective, we were constantly supported, both by the always available professors and by the tutors who accompanied us throughout the different weeks. Coming from design or art-related faculties, they had all the tools to help us.
Having completed this experience, I can say that anyone has the opportunity to grow in an environment like Design in Town, whether they come from a first-year scientific high school or a fifth-year artistic high school.
I recommend this experience to anyone who has a desire to work but, above all, a predisposition to be amazed by everything that is offered, as it is from wonder that the desire to create and be creative arises.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all the people who accompanied me on this journey, especially all the friends I’ve made, the tutors (Ivan, JJ, and Fabio), the professors (all truly exceptional), and the legendary Pasquale.

I spent two intense weeks here at Design in Town, even though I started with concerns because I didn’t know anyone, I found myself among fantastic people, including tutors and professors, who were welcoming and helpful despite the stressful environment of intensive work during the courses. It’s certainly not easy to live with so many people, but that’s why it’s easy to make friends, especially considering that most of the projects are group-based and involve the city, its history, and its residents. I feel like I learned a lot about the chosen subjects, and even though I spent a lot of time with the people I met here, it doesn’t seem like enough.

The courses offered by DIT are fantastic; they give students the opportunity to experience the complexity of working on real problems (not simple exercises with the solution readily available) with strict constraints (especially in terms of time and materials) that force students to consider all pieces of their puzzle in a “creative” way. As for me, the topics proposed, as interesting as they are, are just an excuse to encourage students to tackle real design challenges constructively. The fact that everything is done in Troia makes it even more special; the students have incredible freedom of movement (safely, given the town’s layout), and their “uniforms” make them an integral part of the place, whose residents have already learned to recognize them and interact with them in ways that would be unthinkable elsewhere.

“Design in Town” has undoubtedly left a positive and lasting impression on my son. Although he wasn’t entirely enthusiastic at the beginning, the experience turned out to be very educational. His increased independence was evident, and he made friends more easily than usual. I believe that living in a community with its difficulties and advantages has been a great learning experience for him. The teachers were inspiring, guiding the students through creative challenges and practical exercises. The most remarkable aspect was the dedication to completing projects within tight time constraints, pushing the participants to overcome obstacles and work persistently, even late into the night. This experience has clearly shaped my son’s understanding of the importance of commitment and perseverance. Design in Town is a unique experience that I would absolutely do again. It was an opportunity to meet many people, including students, tutors, professors, and locals. The first days were challenging because of doubts and fatigue from the intense work pace, but then the engagement came naturally and with pleasure. We were guided by skilled professionals who not only generously expanded our knowledge in the chosen fields but also made us feel capable and determined to complete the assigned tasks. Working and spending the day with other students excited me a lot, but I am even happier about the friendships that have developed and that I hope to continue even after the campus ends. The tutors were always friendly and ready to help, contributing to maintaining a positive atmosphere. Every time there was a problem, they were there to assist, in addition to all the fun and laughter moments. In general, I would recommend this experience, even though you shouldn’t expect it to be easy all the time; there will certainly be moments of difficulty, and you need to be ready to adapt to new routines. Maybe I would recommend doing two weeks instead of three, as after a while, the rhythms can be tiring, but despite that, I’m happy I came, and I’m sure I’ve embarked on both educational and personal growth.

Participating in Design In Town is certainly a unique experience, not always easy but one of a kind. Most of the professors were very stimulating, and the projects were interesting. We learned about this design and creativity Summer Camp from the presentation at our school, and immediately it seemed like a great opportunity for Lara to get closer to the disciplines she loves so much and that could potentially become her future profession. Hence, the decision to enroll her in weeks 9 and 10 of the Campus. We knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park because these two weeks were anything but a vacation. Indeed, from her stories afterward, we could understand and appreciate our choice even more. These were intense weeks where she learned a lot and pushed herself to complete the assigned projects. This experience also helped her address some of her insecurities and fears. She went alone, not knowing anyone, and returned more self-assured with new friendships. We know that the first week wasn’t easy for her, but thanks to Pasquale, the tutors, and her new friends, she tackled the second week with more ease. She told us that this was a fantastic experience, even though it involved sleepless nights to complete the projects. A one-of-a-kind experience, not suitable for the faint-hearted. Dit is aimed at individuals with a strong desire to create, discover, WORK, and get their hands dirty. It’s not a vacation where you can relax, but a learning experience that exposes you to the fast-paced world of artistic work. Despite late-night revisions, projects to start from scratch, and countless challenges to complete the tasks, you will always have the support of fantastic people who will bring a smile to your face at every moment, and who will also be there for you after the experience, shoulders to lean on. I advise future participants not to give up at the first obstacle, to seek support from the people around them, and not to isolate themselves. Communicate, argue, engage in discussions, and express yourselves fully. P.S. Contrary to what is commonly thought by us southerners, i.e., “since it’s in the south… it can’t be of quality,” “Design in Town” in Troia (FG) turned out to be a real course of “daring” for our young people, rich in emotions, trials, challenges, and personal satisfactions. It was just what my daughter needed to step out of her comfort zone and bring out the best in herself, dormant as it was. Encouraged by the “technical” aspect of the camp, combined with the fascinating setting in which it would take place, we proposed to Greta to participate for two weeks in July and August. She accepted enthusiastically, and we were completely satisfied: I had the clear impression that I had entrusted my daughter to a serious, well-organized, and trustworthy organization. I didn’t hear from Greta much because she was always very busy but very satisfied and involved in various activities. Tessa attended two weeks at DIT focused on architecture, design, fashion, and photography. She started the experience not very convinced, not knowing anyone and with some prejudices. Let’s say we pushed her to participate, assuming it would be meaningful and outside her comfort zone, parameters we have always used to propose summer experiences to our children. The newly arrived students immediately start working on a project guided by a professional in the field. They wake up early in the morning (very early) for physical warm-up, have an assignment, and must complete it, even working late into the evening. They go around the town (in absolute safety) to gather materials, inspiration, conduct interviews, and take photos. The locals are welcoming and by now recognize them as the DIT kids. That’s why they all have to manage themselves equally and without logos. What I can report as a parent (and therefore not a direct participant) is that the proposed experience is immersive and total and certainly impactful: I must also admit that in the first two days, my daughter Tessa’s voice was a bit tense, as if she was wondering, ‘why did I do this?’ If you don’t let the initial impact scare you, DIT wins you over for the consistency of the project, the professionalism of the staff involved, and the charm and warmth of the Puglian land (a Milanese would notice it!). So what can I say: excellent experience for my daughter, who definitely returned tired but free to express herself and free from many ‘baggage’ that city kids often carry… well done, Pasquale!

This experience has certainly taught me a lot about commitment and the hard work that goes into every creative project. At the beginning, I was doubtful about the possibility of completing an entire project in 3 days, especially in moments when everything had to be changed at the last minute. Nevertheless, I was surprised and almost incredulous at the fantastic result we were able to achieve in such a short time, and all the efforts made were rewarded by the satisfaction of seeing our work finished and appreciated not only by our peers but also by the teachers. There is a lot of work to be done, and if you don’t have a team spirit or the desire to work, it can be challenging to adapt. However, I can assure you that all the coworkers, teachers, and tutors are available and supportive. I will definitely never forget the friends, teachers, and tutors who made these two weeks of work, as well as laughter and fun, possible.
